The year is not quite over yet and yet Munich can already look back on some successes. One of the biggest was certainly the European Championships in August. But conferences and meetings were also quite successful, such as Graphene Week, for which three Nobel Prize winners in physics were in the city, or Bits&Pretzels, at which representatives of particularly promising start-ups met in the context of the Oktoberfest.
And there are numerous other successes that Munich companies from the MICE sector achieved for themselves, such as the award nomination of the Adina Hotel, the employee retention of Geisel Privathotels, the online events of Sams Think Special, the Wellbeing for Life Festival in the Olympic Park and, of course, the safety conference at the Bayerischer Hof Hotel and the upcoming first NFL game in the Allianz Arena. Munich is simply a guarantee for success.
Not all football is the same. But when the NFL, the US National Football League, comes to Germany for the first time for a regular-season league game, then of course no stadium is more suitable than that of FC Bayern. The chairmen of the most successful football club in Germany were able to convince the NFL to play the first regular-season game in the history of the NFL in Germany, at Munich's Allianz Arena. On 13 November 2022, the football pros of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with their star quarterback Tom Brady will play against the Seattle Seahawks in Munich.
The Hotel Bayerischer Hof is probably one of the most successful family businesses in Munich. It has been run by the Volkhardt family for five generations. The hotel is not only known for its central location in the city centre, but also for the annual Munich Security Conference. When high-ranking politicians and experts from all over the world meet at the Bayerischer Hof to discuss the security situation in the world, the hotel's procedures also have to be adapted. However, this extremely high logistical effort is successfully managed every year. Incidentally, the women at the Bayerischer Hof have also been successful: 50 per cent of the area managers are female.
The Olympic Park Munich is not only a place where numerous athletes and music stars have celebrated great successes. The park with its venues has a great success story itself. The facility, which was built for the 1972 Olympic Games, creates an extraordinary ambience for events of almost any kind and size, such as the most recent European Championships. One example of the opportunities the park also offers modern congresses with a high national and international reputation was the Wellbeeing for Life Festival in June 2022, where the theme of "holistic health" was experienced in the most diverse facets by 7,000 visitors. All activities were spread across the area - joy of life through positive encounters and experiences. A complete success for all involved.
In the past two years, many companies have had to redefine success. So did the full-service marketing agency Sams Think Special. When trips and meetings were cancelled and staying at home was the order of the day, the team around Karin Sams quickly developed a wide range of online events. The virtual trips in combination with online tastings were particularly successful, such as virtual Munich visits at Oktoberfest time with online beer tastings for companies from the IT sector. "Ultimately, success for us means that we make our customers successful with the work we do," says Managing Director Karin Sams. Despite the successful online events, Sams Think Special is happy to be able again to make use of the large selection of event and trade fair locations and the interesting hotel industry in Munich.

Planning and organising successful congresses and conferences is the daily business of the congress agency Interplan. With five major events, 2018 was probably one of the agency's most successful years. The programme included the Congress of the European Society of Cardiology with over 32,000 participants, the Visceral Medicine Congress, which was held for the first time in Munich at the ICM with a record attendance of over 6,000, the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, the largest exhibition for the EAACI to date, the European Conference on Computer Vision, which almost became too big for the Gasteig with 3,800 participants, and the Fortbildungswoche für praktische Dermatologie und Venerologie (FOBI), which was successfully relocated from the Gasteig to the ICM. The FOBI also took place in 2022, as a hybrid event and with 7.5 tonnes less waste than in 2018, a clear sign towards sustainability. With Munich, Interplan has a venue where many things fit perfectly. In addition, the planners benefit from the modern trade fair and congress centre, the numerous cultural offerings, the first-class universities and the trusting cooperation with the ICM, the congress office and the hotels.
The highest hotel in the city is the Adina Hotel Munich. Located in the up-and-coming scene quarter Werksviertel-Mitte, it is the ideal location for a successful change of perspective. The event rooms on the 14th floor, all with breathtaking views over the city to the Alps, are among the highest Munich currently has to offer. But not only the view is spectacular. The architecture of the Adina is also award-worthy. This year, the hotel was nominated for the "Hotel Property of the Year 2022" award. Out of 36 top-ranked new hotels from seven European countries, the Adina has already made it into the top 10.
The loyalty of the staff and the satisfaction of the guests are the greatest success for Geisel Privathotels. The first became clearly evident during the pandemic, when the majority of employees remained loyal to their employer despite short-time work and numerous other challenges. At the same time, this loyalty is a precondition for guest satisfaction. After all, successful events can only be realised with satisfied employees.
