Jörg, Janine, Sigrid, Isolde and Stephanie, the Munich Convention Bureau team, often attend international events in the traditional Bavarian “Tracht”. Outside of work they can be seen much more often in sporty attire than in dirndls and lederhosen – like most Munich citizens. For the Isar metropolis, located in the middle of the lake and pre-alpine landscape of Upper Bavaria (and the mountains are not far away either), is a real sporting city. Let the early bird catch its worm – we prefer to go to yoga and start our meeting day at the Hilton Munich Park hotel with sun salutation, tree and warrior poses. We love our English Garden. It was created over 225 years ago as a public park accessible to one and all. As one of the largest inner-city parks in the world it is both a meeting place, children’s paradise, sports ground, and nature reserve. And above all, it is an expression of Munich’s open-minded attitude to life. Between the Japanese tea house in the south and the Aumeister beer garden in the north beats the green heart of the city with numerous streams, lakes, 78 kilometres of pathways and popular places to stop off for a drink and a bite to eat. Here you can give free rein to your creativity in team building; you will simply blend in with the tai chi or theatre groups, slackliners, runners, cyclists, and drummers. We continue our uplifting meeting day with a tent roof tour. Led by guides and secured with climbing harness, rope and carabiners we scramble over the breath-taking construction of steel mesh and acrylic glass sheets, taking in the Munich skyline from surprising angles. Afterwards we enjoy the most far-reaching and beautiful view of the city at our business lunch at the Restaurant 181 in the Munich Olympic Tower. The Olympic grounds offer even more ideas and opportunities for incentives and team building activities including outdoor team trainings, interactive iPad rallies, or a private match in the SoccArena. And of course the generously designed spaces of the Olympic Park are ideal for a quick round of jogging to clear your head.
At Jochen Schweizer Arena in Taufkirchen near Munich we can make our dreams of flying come true. Instead of jumping out of a plane with a parachute we go bodyflying in the 15-metre-highhigh-tech wind tunnel of the Jochen Schweizer Arena. Fitted out with protective clothing the skydivers, professionally guided by “flying instructors”, take off for an exciting flying experience in the air stream directed upwards at a speed of up to 285 kilometres per hour. Since the Eisbach river is recommended only for truly expert surfers, the “citywave” in the Jochen Schweizer Arena is a viable alternative. It is the first indoor surfing experience in Germany with a seamlessly adjustable wave height and pleasant temperatures of 24°C to 26°C.
Fascinating vehicles set against modern architecture – a combination that moves not only motor sports fans into top gear, and trademark of BMW Welt, one of the most exciting event locations in Munich. This is the next station we are heading for on our meeting day in Munich. The BMW Museum as well as BMW Group Classic’s Aero Engine Hall await with a variety of spaces brimming with extraordinary atmosphere. And then finally, there’s the BMW Driving Experience.
You don’t need to be a soccer fan to get goose pimples in the bubbling cauldron of the Allianz Arena. For us Munich citizens, the home stadium of FC Bayern München is naturally a very special place. The vibe at the matches is legendary and the fan clubs’ choreographies are intoxicating. You get an inkling of this on the guided arena tours and special tours through the VIP areas and players’ dressing rooms. You are bound to score with a company event at the FC Bayern Museum.
There can never be enough sundown locations, especially considering that the insider tips soon go viral. Since April 2019 there is another retreat for romantics: “Umadum München”, the world’s biggest mobile Ferris wheel, located in the Werksviertel (a former factory district) near the Munich Ostbahnhof railway station. It stands 30 metres higher than the Oktoberfest Ferris wheel and has 27 air-conditioned Zeppelin gondolas which can each accommodate 16 passengers. VIP gondolas can be hired for business events where a little ‘farsightedness’ might prove beneficial. In the fully glazed gondolas we enjoy the panorama of the city’s rooftops in the evening twilight and round off the exciting day in Munich.
