A white giant in the Schwabing district: the 17-metre-high Walking Man by US artist Jonathan Borofsky on Leopoldstrasse is not to be missed.
This snow-white steel pipe sculpture has been towering in front of the entrance to the Munich Re insurance company building in Schwabing since 1995. The company financed the work as part of its art funding programme.
The sweeping step of the 15-tonne, yet delicate giant, is intended to symbolise, among other things, values such as progress, dynamism and the will to disrupt. Jonathan Borofsky is well-known for his monumental and architecturally oriented works. Among others, he created The Hammering Man, different versions of which can be seen in cities worldwide
