- O2 Surftown MUC: How to get there from Munich
The O2 Surftown MUC impresses with its globally unique wave technology, which uses 34 individually adjustable air chambers to generate precise waves up to 2.2 meters high – all at the touch of a button, just like a piano. This technology not only makes the O2 Surftown MUC a flagship project for German surfing, but also attracts international attention.
Compared to the well-known Eisbachwelle (river wave) in Munich, which offers a standing wave 10 meters wide, the 180-meter-long O2 Surftown facility opens up a completely new dimension of surfing that is similar to surfing in the sea and attracts both regional surfers and international professionals. The facility is open all year round, with opening times varying depending on the season. The facility may be closed in extreme weather conditions (thunderstorms, frost).
The O2 Surftown MUC facility is powered by its own solar energy and green electricity. A direct connection to a local solar park, including an electricity storage unit, increases independence to up to 90 percent with solar energy.
Capturing the surfing experience on video or in photos is often not that easy: O2 Surftown MUC is now solving this problem together with Flowstate using an innovative AI solution. The technology films and photographs every wave automatically and requires no additional devices or manual intervention. This allows surfers to easily record their experiences and share them with family and friends.
The same platform is available as a social network for all surfers, where performances and experiences can be shared and compared. Waves can also be analyzed. There is also the option of leaving interactive comments or following other surfing fans. The content can also be shared on other social media channels.
A maximum of 16 surfers per surf zone surf in the surf sessions on offer. The surfers surf one after the other and then rejoin the line-up. The surf coaches and lifeguards on site ensure a relaxed surfing experience so that everyone gets enough wave attempts.
If you don't want to ride waves, there is still plenty to discover on site. The store, restaurant, bar and terrace – with the best view of the surfing area – are freely accessible to all visitors.
