Embark on a journey through the eventful history of Jewish life in Munich. Find out which Jewish personalities have shaped city life over the centuries and are helping to shape it again today, 80 years after liberation from the Nazi dictatorship.
The tour spans the arc from the first Jewish settlements shortly after the city was founded in 1158 to today's Jewish community in Munich.Well-known Jewish personalities from politics, culture, business and science are inextricably linked with the history of this city.
“We have built and crossed bridges over seemingly insurmountable chasms. Today there are Jewish communities all over the country again.“
Their biographies are just as much a part of the tour as the repeated marginalisation and crimes against Jewish fellow citizens in the course of medieval pogroms up to the Holocaust during the Nazi era. The new beginning after the Second World War and the current situation are also discussed. Together with your guide, you will visit special places and historically significant sites on a tour of the Old Town, including the Ohel Jakob Synagogue, which opened in 2006, and the Jewish Museum, both on St. Jakobs Platz.
