The palaces of Schleissheim at the gates of Munich are ideal for a half-day trip – best with an official City of Munich guide.
Elector Max Emanuel, who was also called the “Blue Elector”, commissioned the construction of the Schleissheim New Palace in front of the “gates of Munich” in the north of the city.
He hired the master builder Enrico Zuccalli and later Joseph Effner. The splendid interior was designed by the renowned artists Johann Baptist Zimmermann, Cosmas Damian Asam and Jacopo Amigoni. You can still admire them today in the Great Hall, the Victory Hall and the Great Gallery.
In the former electoral living quarters the Bavarian State Painting Collections present masterpieces of European Baroque painting.
