Hidden behind its spectacular facade, the Museum Brandhorst Munich wows its visitors with an impressive collection of modern and contemporary art.
Museum Brandhorst at Kunstareal is dedicated to some of the most famous names from the world of art in the 20th and 21st centuries. The husband and wife pairing of Anette and Udo Brandhorst have collected over 1000 pieces for the museum since the 1970s, the majority of which are paintings, drawings and sculptures, though the collection also includes photos, multimedia pieces and installations.
With well over 100 pieces by Andy Warhol, the museum has one of Europe’s leading collections of work by the world’s most famous pop artist.
It is also unique in that it is the only museum in the world to house over 170 pieces by the American artist Cy Twombly. Other ground-breaking artists waiting to be discovered at the museum include Bruce Nauman and Sigmar Polke, Louise Lawler and Cady Noland, Martin Kippenberger and Jeff Koons, Joseph Beuys, Dan Flavin, Blinky Palermo, Jannis Kounellis, John Chamberlain, Richard Tuttle and Walter De Maria.
Similar to the Pinakotheken, the exhibits from the Museum Brandhorst can also be viewed online on their website - even the works currently on display on site.
